The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women's basketball team has added some depth at forward/guard for the upcoming Canada West season. Head coach Scott Reeves has delved into the high school ranks in Kelowna, BC for his second recruit for 2019-20.
He and the WolfPack are pleased to announce that 5'10" Jordan Robb of Okanagan Mission Secondary will join the program in September. Robb is a shooting guard and a small forward.
"I have known the coaches for a long time and have played with or against some of the veterans on the team, " says Robb, who plans to take courses aimed at achieving a Bachelor of Social Work degree at Thompson Rivers. " I was impressed with how big the gym and facilities (Tournament Capital Centre) are and how well the campus was laid out. I thought the campus looked amazing and got me really excited to go to the school."
Robb's long-term goal is to attend law school.
When it comes to basketball, she feels her strengths are her communication skills, her grit and her confidence.
That is echoed by her high school coach of the last five years, Megan Faust who has actually worked with her the last seven seasons and named Robb as one of her captains this year.
"She has really jumped into the leadership role this year," Faust says. "By example, with her humor and her ability to connect with each and every teammate. Her Basketball IQ is through the roof. She sees the floor extremely well, her rebounding and shooting are also huge strengths along with her sense of humor."
Robb has helped her Okanagan Mission team to a top ten ranking in the BC "AAA" league this year—their first season at that level and are vying for a spot in the provincial championships.
Robb and Faust agree that the step up to Canada West will be a challenge but one that she will accept. " Skill wise, Jordan has all the tools she needs to survive at the next level. She will just need to work on her consistency in every game and her strength training. She was sidelined with a bad broken arm this summer which required surgery and set her back in terms of overall strength."
"This year I started off strong," states Robb . " I struggled during the middle of the season but I have been doing better in recent weeks. More like my normal self."
Robb played club basketball in 2017 with BC United and was a starter.
"I am excited to take the next step in my life and become a post-secondary athlete, "she says. " I find that the attention I will be getting for being one of these athletes will be a total shock but I am excited to be a part of the team and be involved in community activities with them. I am beyond grateful and so thankful that Chuck (former assistant coach Ferguson) and Coach Reeves took the time to watch me grow as a player and am excited to join the TRU family."
Says coach Reeves about his latest recruit, " I have watched Jordan since her tryout for the U-15 BC team. She is a hard worker on and off the court. I look forward to her energy and enthusiasm being contagious in our program. "
Robb is the second announced recruit for the WolfPack for 2019-20 joining Sydney Schmidt of Sa-Hali Secondary in Kamloops. Further recruit announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
DOUBLE DRIBBLES: Faust has this anecdote about Robb, who started practicing with her senior team in grade six. " I think my favorite moment (it's the contact picture I still have for Jordan in my phone) was when her fellow grade 9 teammate was playing her first game back after a bad injury. Jordan has ALWAYS been the most amazing teammate. She is constantly supportive and never gripes about playing time - only supports those that are doing the best job for the team. Her teammate hit her first three in the game and Jordan was so pumped she ran up and down the sidelines with her fingers as "3 point goggles" (this was in a game we were losing pretty badly). She made everyone laugh, as always, and it was one of the highlights of that year.
