The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack have extended their unbeaten streak to two in Canada West women's soccer.
The WolfPack rallied with a goal in 86
th minute to tie the Calgary Dinos—the number six ranked team in USPORTS—1-1. The match was played Saturday (Sept 29) on the Warner Rentals field at Hillside Stadium.
The teams were scoreless after the first half.
Montana Leonard scored the goal for Calgary. The Dinos are 5-0-2 (both their draws were against Thompson Rivers. TRU moves to 1-4-2.
SYNOPSIS
The Dinos had 12 shots on goal in the first half and used their size and their skill to their advantage. Six minutes in, they got a free kick from Amy Mikuska (4
th year, defender, Calgary, AB) from 25 yards out but was read easily by TRU keeper
Danielle Robertson. The WolfPack's best threat came in the 30
th minute.
Chantal Gammie (1
st year, forward, Smithers, BC) back flipped the ball to
Camryn Curts (3
rd year, midfield, Courtenay, BC) who fired it from 30 yards out. Dino keepr Lauren Houghton (3
rd year, Calgary, AB) sprawled to keep it out before
Rylee Mugridge (1s year midfield, Maple Ridge, BC) was able to cash in.
In the 39
th minute, Dino Maiya Lee (3
rd year, defender, Calgary, AB) used her speed to break through the middle and tried to split two Pack defenders.
Cassie Morris (4
th year, defender, Kamloops, BC) got her hand on Lee's shoulder while
Julia Burkart (2
nd year, defender, Nelson, BC) shoulder also touched her and she fell in the box. Official Brian Flammack called advantage and no penalty kick which drew the ire of Calgary head coach Troye Flannery.
The second half saw the veteran Calgary squad start to dominate. They opened the scoring in the 59 th minute as Montana Leonard (4
th year, midfield, Richmond, BC) scored her league leading 8 th goal as the Dinos capitalized on a WolfPack turnover by Robertson.
Robertson recovered and made some key stops in the second half including one point blank on Kelsie McDonald (4
th year, forward, Calgary, AB) in the 81
st minute.
Thompson Rivers got the equalizer in the 86 th minute. Some intense pressure resulted in a Calgary turnover.
Taylor Miller (5
th year, midfield, Kamloops, BC) started and finished the play with a shot to the lower left of the net which evaded Houghton. The Dinos had 21 shots in the contest, 14 on goal compared to three shots (all on goal) for Thompson Rivers. Robertson had 13 saves.

Thompson Rivers continues its homestand on Sunday (Sept 29) when the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves pay a visit to Warner Rentals Field at Hillside Stadium. It's the second meeting between the two sides this year. UNBC hosted TRU on the opening weekend of the season and beat them 1-0. Kick off is noon Sunday.
The Dinos will head to Kelowna on Sunday where they will fact the UBCO Heat. UBCO won their first match of the year on Saturday (Sept 28) with a 1-0 win over UBCO.
