The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women's basketball team  will hope to be road warriors as they put the capper of a four game Canada West stretch away from the Tournament Capital Center this weekend.

The WolfPack will be in Victoria, BC to tackle the University of Victoria Vikes as the CARSA Performance Gym on Friday and Saturday (Jan 24-25).
Coming off a split in Brandon, Manitoba last weekend, the WolfPack put their 7-7 record on the line against a Victoria team with the identical record.

Thompson Rivers is 3-3 on the road this year and stands 2-3 in their last five games.  Victoria is 4-3 at home but they have lost their last five outings.

Friday's game (Jan 24) has a 6:00 PM start time .Saturday's contest (Jan 24) has a 5:00 PM tip off.

HISTORY

Victoria has a commanding 12-5 all time record against Thompson Rivers and has won the last seven meetings between the two.

Last year, the teams played at the Tournament Capital Centre.  On November 9, 2018,  Victoria came out with a 78-59 decision after leading 40-29 at the half. Calli McMillan  (4th year, guard, Victoria, BC) had 21 points with  Amira Giannattasio chipping in with 16 points. Ashlyn Day (3rd year, guard, Kelowna, BC)  contributed 13 points for the Vikes while Aleah Ashley (4th year, guard, Comox, BC)  had 10.   TRU's main gunner was Michelle Bos with 16.  Leilani Carney (5th year, guard, Burnaby, BC) had 11 16 points.

The following night (Nov 11),  Victoria was an 81-62 victor.  They led 37-25 at the half.  Ashley and Katie Langdon (5th year, forward, Owen Sound, ON)  had 16 points.  Giannattasio and McMillan had 12 points. Bos had 19 points, Carney added 13 and Jordon Haggerty (3rd year, guard, Saskatoon, SK) chipped in with 11.

The last time the teams met in Victoria was the weekend of January 5-6, 2018.  The Vikes won on the Friday night 83-65 despite the fact the WolfPack outscored them 20-17 in the fourth quarter.  The next night,  Victoria won 83-64 after leading 39-31 at the break.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Thompson Rivers:
Leilani Carney : leads the Pack in scoring averaging 12.5 points and 2.6 assists per game
Emma Piggin (5th year, guard, Kamloops, BC): sits second in team scoring (12.2 points per game) and leads TRU  with 7.1 rebounds per game in 30.6 minutes. She is also second in assists (2.1) and leads the team in blocks (0.5)
Jordon Haggerty (3rd year, guard, Saskatoon, SK): third in team scoring averaging 11.9 points per game playing 34.3 minutes per game.
Megan Rouault (3rd year, guard, Vernon, BC): second on the Pack in rebounds (4.6) and is tied for third in blocks (0.4)  averaging 24.6 minutes.

Victoria:

Ashlyn Day: leads the Vikes in scoring averaging 17.5 points in 28 minutes on the court (most on Victoria).
Kristy Gallagher: is second on the team in scoring averaging 12.5 points in 25.4 minutes.
Katie Langdon: tied for third on the Vikes in scoring (7.1 points) in 16.5 minutes
Morgan Roskelley (5th year, guard, Victoria, BC) is tied for third on the team in scoring (7.1 points)in 27.8 minutes on the floor (second most on the team)
Haily Weaver: leads the team in rebounding  (6.1) per game and is tied for second in blocks (0.3) per game in 18.3 minutes.

The final home regular season weekend for Thompson Rivers will come up January 31-February 1st at the Tournament Capital Centre as they will entertain the University of Fraser Valley Cascades. Friday night (Jan 31) will be "Donors Night" while the Saturday night contest (Feb 1) will see the team honor fifth year players Emma Piggin (Kamloops, BC) and Leilani Carney (Burnaby, BC).  The weekend is also being deemed "Alumni Weekend" where former players from the Cariboo College Gold Rush, University College of the Cariboo Sun Demons and the WolfPack will be recognized.
