KAMLOOPS – It's all coming down to this. The final week of Canada West play is here for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team (3-2-5) that will have their playoff destiny in their own hands when they wrap up the 2021 season against the UNBC Timberwolves (1-4-5) in Prince George this weekend.

With just two games left the play, the WolfPack currently occupy the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division of Canada West soccer. Holding 14 points – just one back of both UBC and TWU and four less than first place UVic – the WolfPack could finish everywhere from a program-best first overall in the division, to out of the playoffs entirely.

The WolfPack are coming off a well-deserved bye week last weekend. The team got the chance to regroup and recover after a tough last home stand of the season saw them pick up one point off the visiting Fraser Valley Cascades in results of a 1-1 tie and 1-0 loss.

The Timberwolves enter the weekend sitting at the bottom of a tight B.C. division table, but by no means are they out the playoff picture with two games left to go. If the Timberwolves win out and other results fall their way they could climb into the fourth and final post-season spot. UNBC picked up a pair of 2-2 ties with the Cascades last weekend.

The WolfPack swept the Timberwolves in 2019. TRU went on the road and picked up victories of 4-0 and 2-0 in Prince George.

3 Things

1: All four of the WolfPack soccer games this weekend can be watched live at The Den. The on-campus eatery is opening specifically on Saturday and Sunday so that WolfPack fans have a place to safely gather and watch the games.

2: A pair of wins this weekend would move head coach John Antulov to 40 career U SPORTS victories between regular season, playoff and U SPORTS National Championships play.

3: With their fate in their own hands, a first or second place finish in the division would be the first in program history. Their previous best regular season finish was third in 2017-18.

By the Numbers

2.31 – The WolfPack have averaged 2.31 goals-per-game in their contests with the Timberwolves and are looking to bounce back from their last games two weeks ago that saw them score just once.

Marco Favaro entes the weekend tied for fifth in the conference with three assists.

8-2-3 – The WolfPack hold a record of 7-2-3 vs. the Timberwolves in regular season play, including a mark of 2-1-1 in Prince George.

Scouting the Timberwolves

The Timberwolves are led in attack by Kensho Ando. The product of Tokyo has a team-best six points through ten games and is tied for first in the conference with five assists. Daniel Zadravec has started all ten games in net for the Timberwolves allowing 18 goals while making a conference-best 49 saves.
