KAMLOOPS – For the first time in 630 days Canada West basketball will be back in the Tournament Capital Centre this weekend when the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team returns to action.

Playing host to the UNBC Timberwolves on Friday and the UBC Okanagan Heat on Saturday, the WolfPack will start their 2021 season against a pair of regional rivals.

Taking part in a trio of tournaments throughout their non-conference slate, the WolfPack compiled a record of 1-6 while playing against some of the top teams in Canada West. The team's lone victory came courtesy of an 80-79 triumph over the Mount Royal Cougars on October 22.

Facing a schedule of purely B.C. schools this season, the WolfPack will face the Timberwolves, Heat, UBC Thunderbirds, Fraser Valley Cascades, Trinity Western Spartans and UVic Vikes three times each in 2021-22.

The WolfPack split a pair of incredibly close games with the Timberwolves in 2019-20. TRU pulled out a 68-66 win before falling 77-87 in overtime to wrap up the weekend series in Kamloops.

It was also a split between the 'Pack and Heat in 2019-20. Playing both games in Kelowna, TRU lost 56-47 on the first night before rebounding for the 68-59 win the next.

3 Things

1: Fans 12-and-over attending the games must show proof of full vaccination through their online BC Vaccine Card. Masks are mandatory in the stands at all times when not eating or drinking.

2: Due to regional health restrictions, spectators inside the Tournament Capital Centre will be limited, so fans are encouraged to buy tickets online to ensure their spot.

3: All 17 teams in Canada West will make the playoffs this year, with a conference-wide tournament scheduled to take place at the University of Calgary, Lethbridge and Mount Royal University.

By the Numbers

3 – It is an incredibly young roster for the WolfPack with just 3 of their 15 athletes having played in a Canada West game.

12.6 – First-year forward Elana Sireni leads the way offensively for the 'Pack during the preseason, averaging 12.6 points per game.

4-6 – The WolfPack hold a record of 4-6 vs. the Timberwolves in Canada West play over the last five years.

7-3 – The WolfPack hold a record of 7-3 vs. the Heat in Canada West play over the last five years.
