KAMLOOPS – In search of their first Canada West victory of the year, the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack women's basketball team will hit the road for a pair of games against the UNBC Timberwolves this coming weekend.

Playing on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 4:00 p.m., the WolfPack will take on a Timberwolves team that they played just last weekend.

These teams met in the first game of the season last Friday, with the Timberwolves holding on for a 80-71 victory despite a 15 point, 13 rebound Canada West debut for Elana Sireni.

Remaining at home for their second game of the season, TRU was unable to keep pace with a high-powered UBC Okanagan Heat offence in. an 97-69 defeat.

UNBC finished off their weekend by playing the Fraser Valley Cascades in a game that saw them fall 73-48.

With the two teams playing three regular season games against each other in 2021-22, this weekend will be the final time that the two rivals will meet barring a rematch in the playoffs.

3 Things

1: Both games can be watched live at The Den. The on-campus eatery is staying open late on Fridays and opening specifically on Saturday so that WolfPack fans have a place to safely gather and watch the games. The complete schedule of games at The Den can be found here.

2: A total of seven WolfPack players scored the first Canada West points of their careers last weekend.

3: All 17 teams in Canada West will make the playoffs this year, with a conference-wide tournament scheduled to take place at the University of Calgary, Lethbridge and Mount Royal University.

By the Numbers

1 – The 'Pack thrive at getting to the charity stripe. They lead the conference in both free throw attempts and free throws made per-game.

85% –118 of the WolfPack's 139 points on the year have come from players in their first year with the team.

9-8 – The WolfPack hold a record of 9-8 vs. the Timberwolves in all-time Canada West action.

Scouting the Timberwolves

A pair of student-athletes from Russia are at the forefront of the Timberwolves roster.  Alina Shakirova scored 33 points and added 10 rebounds while Svetlana Boykova pulled down 22 rebounds while also scoring 10 points to lead UNBC over the WolfPack in their previous game.
