KAMLOOPS – With his second signing as head coach of the Thompson Rivers University women's basketball program, Todd Warnick is pleased to announce the commitment of a player with proven winning pedigree in Makeba Taylor.
Previously playing for Humber College, Taylor made quite the entrance into the world of post-secondary basketball, helping lead the Hawks to a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association title while also being named to the OCAA West All-Rookie team.
"Makeba is an exciting edition to the WolfPack," said Warnick. "Having been a member of the Humber Hawks she brings championship experience to our team."
This upcoming season will see a return to the court for Taylor, who averaged 27.5 minutes-per-game in 2018-19 for the Hawks. A knee injury forced Taylor to miss two seasons of on-court action, but the product of Toronto stayed immersed into the world of basketball by serving as team manager while recovering from the injury.
"The truth is, I don't know if I could have taken this next step of joining the WolfPack without the growth and confidence that I have now as both a person and athlete had I not endured that trial," said Taylor. "I no longer looked at my opportunities as something I was entitled to because of my athleticism. Instead, I saw them as a chance to express my gratitude for the ability - my ability - to walk through each open door that I had been given."
Playing in 36 games in her collegiate career and with two more years of experience helping on the bench, Taylor is poised to bring veteran experience and leadership to a young WolfPack squad.
"I believe that my experience under the leadership of coach Todd Warnick will add tremendously to the program," said Taylor. "I understand what it means to persevere—in basketball and in life—and what it takes to win."
"Makeba's age and basketball background will be invaluable in providing much-needed experience and leadership to our young squad," said Warnick.
The 5-8 guard is another addition to a young roster that continues to mature. After suiting up 12 student-athletes that were in their first year with the WolfPack last season, the 2022-23 roster is sure to have more experience as Warnick takes charge of the program.
