Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – It's all-or-nothing time for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team that travels to Calgary this weekend for Canada West postseason action.

First up for the 'Pack (7-7-1, 4th Pacific) is a quarter-final clash with the host MRU Cougars (11-2-1, 1st Prairie) taking place at noon pacific on Saturday. If the 'Pack win that game they will advance to play either the UVic Vikes (10-4-2, 2nd Pacific) or the Lethbridge Pronghorns (4-5-5, 3rd Prairie) in a Canada West semifinal game that will see both a place in the conference championship and a trip to the U SPORTS National Championship tournament on the line.

The 'Pack are no strangers to having their backs up against the wall. After starting the season 0-5-0 the squad has gone on a tremendous 7-2-1 run to claim their spot in the postseason. And of course when it comes to elimination games the core of the team has plenty of experience in must-win situations after their three shootout victories en route to the U SPORTS National Championship title last year.

TRU enters the weekend after defeating the MacEwan Griffins by a score of 2-0 last weekend. Alesandro Comita and Dylan Hooper each recorded a goal and an assist while Svyatik Artemenko and Olivier Jumeau combined for the shutout.

MRU meanwhile has gone undefeated through their last five games and finished their regular season with a 2-0 win over the Calgary Dinos last weekend.

TRU is 1-3-1 all-time against MRU with the Cougars winning the two playoff games the sqauds have played in 2019 and 2021.

By The Numbers

16: It's set to be a stingy affair with the two teams combining for 10 shutouts in their 29 regular season games.

8: The eight points captain Patrick Izett scored throughout the season is the seventh-most in the program's single-season history.

10: Mount Royal's David Schaefer finished second in the conference with ten goals.
