Weekend Story
KAMLOOPS – The last chance for fans of the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team to see their squad in-person for regular season action will come this weekend when the 'Pack play host to the UBC Okanagan Heat.
With a game on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 7:00 p.m., the back-to-back contests will go a long way in solidifying the Canada West playoff picture. TRU (3-6-1) is currently just behind UBCO (3-5-0) for the final playoff spot with the standings being determined by winning percentage.
Friday night will see the Kamloops Kia Tailgate take over Hillside Stadium. Scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. the first 100 people that attend the tailgate will get a free hamburger, bag of chips and a pop.
Prior to the game on Saturday TRU will honour nine graduating student-athletes:
Ethan Furlong,
Matthew Hanks,
Jost Hausendorf,
Dylan Hooper,
Patrick Izett,
Ryan Lewis,
Denzel Marican,
Steffen Masaites and
Marques Scott will all play the final regular season home games of their WolfPack career.
TRU hosted the UFV Cascades and the TWU Spartans last weekend and split the games. The 'Pack earned a 2-0 win over the Cascades but lost 3-0 to the Spartans.
UBCO meanwhile are coming into the weekend with momentum on their side after they earned a pair of 1-0 victories over those same Spartans and Cascades.
While the WolfPack hold the historical edge between the two teams with a record of 7-3-7, it was UBCO that claimed the spoils last season picking up a win and a tie in Kelowna.
3 Things
1: The Kamloops Kia Tailgate will also feature an autograph station with free pictures of last year's U SPORTS National Championship photo being available for fans.
2: Fryer's Express and My Big Fat Greek Food Truck will both be serving up food at Hillside for the game on Friday while Mountaineer Kettle Corn will be at the game Saturday.
3: The game will mark the first contest on the men's side in the battle for the annual President's Cup as TRU and UBCO do battle once again.
By The Numbers
7: It has been a scoring by committee approach to the season for TRU with seven different players finding the back of the net for the team's eight goals.
46: TRU has proven effective from set pieces this season. The 46 corner kicks they have earned is third highest in the conference.
41: UBCO's goalkeeper Ronan Woodroffe is fifth in the conference with 41saves this season.
