Weekend Story
KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men's soccer team will return to the friendly confines of Hillside Stadium this weekend, as they are set to play their first home games of the 2023 season.
Taking on the UVic Vikes on Friday and the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday, the games will be the first for the 'Pack in Kamloops since their
historic U SPORTS National Championship run last November.
Both games will get underway at 7:00 p.m. and feature three teams that expect to be near the top of the conference.
The WolfPack will be looking to get their season on track after suffering a pair of defeats on the road last weekend. TRU fell by identical scores of 1-0 to both the Trinity Western Spartans and Fraser Valley Cascades.
For UVic, the game Friday night will be the first of their 2023 campaign after they were on a bye last weekend. The Vikes were slotted ninth in the
Canada West Coaches Pre-season poll after a disappointing 2022 season but are just two years away from a Canada West silver medal.
A perennial powerhouse UBC squad hit the ground running last weekend when they picked up victories of 4-0 and 5-0 over the UNBC Timberwolves.
TRU earned four of a possible six points in games against UVic last year, defeating them 3-0 in Kamloops before settling for a 0-0 tie in Victoria. The WolfPack's most recent game against UBC is one that will live forever in the memories of 'Pack fans. TRU took down the Thunderbirds in a thrilling shootout to claim the first U SPORTS national title in school history.
