Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – It will be a rare single-game weekend for the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team this weekend as they are set to host the Saskatchewan Huskies in Kamloops.

Making the weekend even more unique is the fact that the 'Pack will be playing down on MacArthur Island Field 2. The game will be the first in the program's Canada West history that they host somewhere other than Hillside Stadium and will get underway at 5:15 p.m.

The contest will pit the WolfPack (1-5-1) against the Huskies (1-3-2) as both teams try to solidify their respective spots in the CW playoff picture.

TRU played just one game last weekend due to smoke in Edmonton. They took on the Lethbridge Pronghorns Saturday and raced out to a 2-0 lead at the half before being forced to settled for a draw after a pair of late Lethbridge markers. On Sunday the 'Pack were slated to face the MacEwan Griffins but the game was postponed due to wildfire smoke in the city.

Saskatchewan had by far their most successful weekend of the season last time out. After starting the year with just one tie and three losses in their first four games they were able to defeat the UBC Okanagan Heat 2-0 and tie the UVic Vikes 1-1.

These two teams have met four times in their Canada West history with TRU holding a 2-0-2 advantage. The last time they met was just last season when they played to a 1-1 draw in Saskatoon.

3 Things

1: With the game being played on the grass surface of MacArthur Island the 'Pack have been training on their temporary home field all week long.

2: The Mitton family and everyone's favourite member of the 'Pack Jude will be at the game raising awareness for his Kickin' For A Cure: FIFA Fundraiser.

3:  TRU will be looking for their first victory at home this weekend.

By The Numbers

2: Izett's two goal performance last weekend against Lethbridge earned him a nod as the WolfPack Athlete of the Week.

9: Fifth-year member of the 'Pack Dylan Hooper needs just one goal to move into sole possession of fifth in the program's CW history.

4: The 'Pack are currently holding the fourth and final playoff spot in the CW Pacific Division.
