Weekend Story
KAMLOOPS – With just three weekends left to go in the Canada West regular season the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team is set to host a pair of big games at Hillside Stadium.
Facing the Fraser Valley Cascades (2-6-0) on Friday at 5 p.m. and the Trinity Western Spartans (3-1-5) on Saturday at 4 p.m., the games will have a big impact on the WolfPack's (2-5-1) postseason aspirations.
TRU is currently just one spot out of the playoff picture although they hold a game in hand due to their September 17 match against the MacEwan Griffins being postponed due to poor air quality.
On Friday night the 'Pack will host their annual Puppies & Pints night, with dogs welcomed into Hillside Stadium. On Saturday the game will take place on Truth & Reconciliation Day and the WolfPack have partnered with TRUSU and the Office of Indigenous Education on a number of initiatives for the game.
TRU played just one game last weekend where they emerged victorious 1-0 over the Saskatchewan Huskies.
Akwasi Agyekum recorded the first goal of his WolfPack career in the win while defensively TRU put together their first clean sheet of the season.
Fraser Valley split their games last weekend. After falling to the Lethbridge Pronghorns 2-1 they earned their second victory of the season in a 4-3 win over the MacEwan Griffins. The Cascades and WolfPack met on the opening weekend of the season with UFV edging out a 1-0 victory.
Trinity Western is coming off a one-point weekend. The Spartans tied the Saskatchewan Huskies 1-1 before losing 1-0 to the Alberta Golden Bears. After beginning their season with three wins in their first four games, TWU had tied their last five games in a row before losing to Alberta. Like Fraser Valley, Trinity scored a 1-0 victory over the 'Pack on the first weekend of the season.
