Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – It's a third week in a row at home for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team that is nearing the midway point of their Canada West schedule for the first semester.

Taking on the UFV Cascades (3-1) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, the 'Pack (0-4) will be taking on a squad that made it all the way to the U SPORTS Championship tournament last season.

TRU fought hard against one of the top teams in the country last weekend. A young WolfPack squad fell by scores of 88-48 and 74-43 against the No. 2 ranked team in the nation, the UBC Thunderbirds. Fourth-year guard Danijela Kovacevic was named the WolfPack Athlete of the Week after a consistent weekend that saw her put up 23 points, five assists and four steals over the two games.

The Cascades defeated the UBC Okanagan Heat in a pair of close games at home last weekend. After surging out to 76-63 win on Friday, UFV needed overtime to defeat the Heat on Saturday in an 84-75 victory.

The two teams played a pair of games in Kamloops last season with the Cascades picking up victory in both games.

3 Things

1: Papa Murphy's will be serving up pizza inside the TCC all season long.

2: All high school student-athletes in Kamloops and Merritt have a High School All-Access Pass that allows them free entry to every WolfPack game this season.

3: TRU last defeated UFV in the 2015-16 season.

By The Numbers

9.3: TRU rookie Morgan Eichenberger continued a strong start to her U SPORTS career last weekend and is tied for fourth in the conference with 9.3 rebounds per game.

12: UFV's Julia Tuchscherer  had 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 assists in their OT victory over UBCO, which is one assist away from being the 12th triple double in Canada West women's basketball history.

72%: 578 of the WolfPack's 800 minutes played this season have been by players in their first or second year of eligibility.
