Men's Basketball TRU WolfPack

Highly sought-after Harrison commits to the ‘Pack

KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team have gone to familiar recruiting grounds to secure the latest addition to their program with the announcement that Matix Harrison has committed to the 'Pack.

"Matix is a high character individual who comes from a strong family background and will be a great addition to our team's culture," said WolfPack head coach Chad Jacobson. "Matix adds the ability to shoot the basketball at an elite level as well as providing length and size on the perimeter."

From Surrey, B.C. and Elgin Park Secondary, Harrison will join his older brother Cyrus – a second-year guard – on the team in time for the 2024-25 season.

"I chose TRU over other schools for many reasons. A few being the family-like atmosphere, the beautiful campus and just the all-around good vibes in the student-athlete community," said Harrison. "Cyrus and I always played tons of ball together growing up and I'm really looking forward to getting back on the court with him and just growing as brothers playing the game we both fell in love with as kids."

Starring for Athelite Basketball Academy as well as Elgin Park, Harrison is a player that has multiple tools to his game.

"I am a taller guard that likes to get downhill to the rim while also being able to shoot outside shots," said Harrison. "I have played point guard, shooting guard and small forward but mostly play at the shooting guard position. I'm hoping to bring lots of energy and a good competitive edge to the team next season."

A multi-sport athlete, Harrison has excelled throughout his high school career. The 6'5" guard has helped Elgin Park to multiple high-place finishes at competitive tournaments across the province while most recently captaining the Elgin Park volleyball team at the provincial championships.

First playing basketball at the age of nine, Harrison points to a pair of coaches that have helped him grow into the player that he is today.

"I've had the privilege of being coached by two amazing, hard-working, funny and dedicated coaches from the time I picked up a basketball all the way up until the end of my senior high school season," said Harrison. "Coach Kirk and Coach Mike have sacrificed endless time to work on making my teammates / friends and I the best basketball players and the best people on and off the court that we can possibly be."

Harrison plans on studying business administration next year at TRU.

"Coming from a very well-coached high school program, Matix will be no stranger to the hard work and commitment required to play U SPORTS basketball," said Jacobson.
