Weekend Story
KAMLOOPS – The final home weekend of the 2023-24 season is on tap for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball squad that will host the MRU Cougars inside the TCC.
Taking place at 5:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, the games will feature a 2-14 TRU team up against the 6-12 Cougars.
The game Saturday will see the 'Pack honour
Kelsey Cruz as the lone graduating athlete from their team. With the 'Pack since 2019, Cruz is a biology major from Calgary that has provided veteran leadership for some young TRU squads throughout her time with the program.
TRU fought hard but fell in a pair of games to the Alberta Pandas last weekend. The Pandas won big Friday but TRU kept things closer against the nationally-ranked team on Saturday.
The Cougars come into the weekend on a ten-game losing streak and were most recently dealt defeat in a pair of game with the UFV Cascades.
The most recent meetings between these two teams in CW play came during the 2021-22 season when they split a pair of games in Kamloops.
3 Things
1: The Tara School of Irish Dancing will perform at halftime on Friday while the Kamloops-Thompson Honour Choir will sing at halftime on Saturday.
2: There will be hot food and a beer garden served up inside the TCC all season long.
3: The 'Pack are thrilled to host Stites Co. for a courtside reception Friday while realtor Aaron Krausert will be the game sponsor on Saturday.
By the Numbers
372: 372 points in 79 CW games for Cruz is good enough for her to rank 20th in program history.
1.5: With 24 blocks through 16 games, rookie
Kate De La Mare is currently tied for the program single season record with 1.5 blocks-per-game.
15-1: TRU is 15-1 in CW play vs. the Cougars.
