Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – It's a return to Hillside Stadium for the first time in the 2024-25 Canada West regular season this weekend for the Thompson Rivers Univeristy WolfPack men's soccer team.

With games on Friday and Saturday at both 7:00 p.m., the back-to-back home games will see the 0-2-0 'Pack face the TWU Spartans (0-0-0) and the UFV Cascades (2-0-0).

A new-look WolfPack squad enters the games with some positive momentum despite falling in both of their regular season openers last weekend. Taking on two of the toughest teams in the conference, TRU fell 3-0 to the UVic Vikes to start the season and then led for much of the game the next night before eventually losing 3-1 to the UBC Thunderbirds. Minwoo Kang scored the lone goal of the weekend for TRU. With 18 new additions to the WolfPack roster, the team continued to gel throughout the weekend.

Friday night will be the first game of the season for Trinity Western after they started their season with a bye. The Spartans were pegged fourth in the CW preaseason coaches' poll.

Fraser Valley hit the ground running on opening weekend, earning a pair of home victories over the UNBC Timberwolves. Mateo Brazhinha scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 victory Friday before a 2-0 victory on Sunday gave UFV the weekend sweep.

The Spartans won both games over the WolfPack last season, however TRU has claimed victory at Hillside in two of the last three games that the teams have played in Kamloops.

Meanwhile, the WolfPack and Cascades split their games last season with both teams winning on home soil. Dating back to 2019-20, the 'Pack are 2-1-2 against the Cascades in Kamloops.

3 Things

1: Fryer's Express will be serving up food at both games.

2: All season long members of KYSA, Soccer Quest and TOFC will receive free entry to WolfPack games by wearing their team jerseys.

3: TRU won four of the seven games they played at home last season.

By The Numbers

12: A total of 12 players made their WolfPack debuts last weekend.

6: Despite the many new faces, TRU slotted into sixth in the CW preseason coaches' poll.

7: The 'Pack are on the hunt for a seventh-consecutive CW postseason berth.
