Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – Two teams at the top of the division will come to town this weekend as the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team prepares to host the UBC Thunderbirds and UVic Vikes at Hillside Stadium.

With games on Friday and Saturday – both at 7:30 p.m. - the back-to-back home games will see the 1-6-1 'Pack face UBC (5-0-2) and UVic  (5-1-3) in what will be two important clashes for the team.

The weekend is set to be a fun one for the 'Pack with both Puppies & Pints and KYSA night set to take over Hillside Stadium one Friday. Saturday will see the WolfPack host an Orange Shirt Day game in advance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

TRU enters the homestand after a promising weekend on the road. The WolfPack took on the top teams in the Prairie Division and led both the Calgary Dinos and Alberta Golden Bears before surrendering late goals en route to a 1-1 tie and an extremely close 2-1 defeat.

The Thunderbirds, who are ranked as the No. 2 team in the country, defeated the Saskatchewan Huskies 2-0 in their lone game last weekend.

UVic meanwhile finds themselves facing some adversity as they come to Kamloops. After starting their season with a record of 5-0-2, the Vikes could manage just a 0-0 tie with the Lethbridge Pronghorns and a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the MRU Cougars last weekend.

These teams met earlier in the season with the WolfPack coming up just shy of earning an impressive tie with the Thunderbirds in a 3-1 road loss one night after falling 3-0 to the Vikes in Victoria.

The WolfPack have defeated the Thunderbirds in each of the team's last three meetings in Kamloops, including the 2022 U SPORTS National Championship game.

TRU and UVic are an even 8-8-3 in the 19 games that the teams have played in CW action though the 'Pack do hold a 6-2 edge at home.
