KAMLOOPS – A talented guard from Vernon, B.C. is the first recruit for the upcoming 2025-26 season for the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team after Paige Leahy signed with the 'Pack.
"I chose the WolfPack because I felt it was the perfect fit for me, there's a sense of family and unity here," said Leahy. "The team and coaches were very inviting and had great energy, it's clear that everyone is committed to supporting each other. "
A standout with the Vernon Secondary School Panthers, the 5-9 guard helped Vernon to a third-place finish at the 2025 B.C. AAA Provincial Championships.
Tallying 58 points over her squad's four-game run at provincials, Leahy saved her best for last with a 25-point performance in Vernon's 68-57 victory over Duchess Park in the bronze medal match. Leahy was named a second team all-star for her efforts.
Playing basketball since the age of five, Leahy has also excelled in both volleyball and cross country running throughout her youth athletics career.
"I feel I am a hardworking and determined player," said Leahy. "I am looking forward to playing at the U SPORTS level."
Twice a female athlete of the year at Vernon Secondary, Leahy is looking forward to getting to play at the postsecondary level close to home.
"I like that I am still close enough to home where my family and friends can continue to watch my basketball career grow," said Leahy on her decision to join TRU. "Being able to represent the WolfPack is a huge accomplishment, it's such a supportive group of people who symbolize hard work not just on the court but also in the classroom. Representing the WolfPack feels like the right place for me to grow, and I'm excited to be part of something special."
Leahy plans on taking classes in the arts department at TRU with a future eye towards criminology.
