KAMLOOPS – An experienced forward originally from Spain is the latest recruit for the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team and head coach
Chad Jacobson with the announcement that Fran Monreal has committed to the 'Pack.
"We are very excited to have Fran Monreal join the WolfPack men's basketball program for the upcoming 2025-2026 season," said Jacobson. "Fran is a very mature and experienced player who understands how to play the game the right way and knows what it takes to win. He brings a level of toughness and a competitive spirit along with a very good skill-set that we look forward to having in our lineup every night. Coming to us having spent his first two years at the NJCAA level and competing in one of the top conferences in the country, he has proven that he can compete at a high level."
A 6-6 forward, Monreal is from Zaragoza, Spain but has spent the last two seasons playing at the junior college level, most recently with the Fort Hays Tech Northwest Tigers in Goodland, Kansas. He will have three years of eligibility remaining when he joins the 'Pack.
"I chose to join the WolfPack because I believe in the program's vision and the chance to grow both on and off the court," said Monreal. "I'm excited to compete at this level and contribute to the team's success."
A versatile forward that can play multiple roles both offensively and defensively, Monreal began his basketball journey back in Spain and eventually worked his way into one of the top youth academies in Europe. He also represented his country with the U17 3x3 Spanish National Team.
"Moving to the States was a big decision for me because I wanted to challenge myself and take my basketball and education to the next level," said Monreal. "It's been an amazing journey so far."
Starting 25 games for the Tigers last year in the extremely competitive Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, Monreal led the team with a field goal percentage of 56.7.
Alongside excelling on the court, Monreal finished last year with a perfect 4.0 GPA and is a two-time Academic All-American.
"Not only will Fran make an immediate impact on the court, but he is a very strong student and a high character individual who will be a great addition to our team's culture and represent the program the right way," said Jacobson.
Monreal plans on studying business at TRU.
