KAMLOOPS – A student-athlete that has reached the pinnacle of high school basketball in B.C. is the latest recruit for the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team as head coach
Chad Jacobson is pleased to announce that Earl Akene has committed to the 'Pack.
"We are very excited to have Earl Akene join the WolfPack men's basketball program for the upcoming 2025-2026 season," said Jacobson. "Earl is a very hard working and dedicated student-athlete who comes to us from a winning high school program. He has been well coached throughout his high school career and knows what it takes to win. Earl brings a level of athleticism and physicality along with a competitive spirit that will prove to make a positive impact to our team."
A 6-3 guard from Surrey, B.C. Akene joins the 'Pack after a standout high school career with Pacific Academy.
"I chose the WolfPack because the coaches and staff made me feel welcomed and were genuinely interested in my well-being," said Akene.
A versatile player that prides himself on being a student of the game, Akene is the seventh recruit announced by the WolfPack for the upcoming campaign.
Earning a spot as a First-Team All-Star at the AA Provincials this past year, Akene helped Pacific capture the provincial title. Leading Pacific to four-straight wins in the tournament, Akene averaged 27.5 points-per-game as the Breakers defeated Samuel Robertson Technical, Abbotsford Christian, Westsyde Seconday and Summerland en route to the title.
"Winning Provincials was the perfect way to end high school," said Akene. "It felt great to win something huge for my school, coaches and team. It was the culmination of years of hard work and determination."
The 2025 RCMP Classic Tournament All-Star plans on studying sciences at TRU.
"Earl is a high character young man that will be a great fit in our locker room and help to continue to build and strengthen our team's culture," said Jacobson. "He is a very strong student who will represent our program the right way both in the classroom and in our community."
